Mind easier known than the body?
In the Second Meditation Descartes affirms that the mind is more readily known than the body. What might he mean by this?
Cogito Ergo Sum
Descartes arrives at the proposition, "I think, therefore I exist." What is his criteria form making this claim? What form does the statement take? Is it analytic, meaning that the subject and the predicate mean the same thing, such as 1+1=2. And what is the significance of such an assertion?
Clear and Distinct Ideas
One of Descartes criteria for a true and certain statement is that it be clear and distinct, that is it cannot be doubted on pain of contradiction, such as in the truths of mathematics. Indeed, the notion of that which is clear and distinct is what assures him that he indeed exists. Why might one take this as a valid criteria?
