The two articles noted below disagree in important ways on William Faulkner's short story, "A Rose for Emily." Write an essay in which you lay out the arguments on each side examine the textual evidence, and resolve the debate.
Neberker, Helen E. "Emily's Rose of Love: Thematic Implications of Point of View in Faulkner's 'A Rose for Emily'." Bulletin of the Rocky Mountain Modern Language Association.
Sulivan, Ruth. "The Narrator in 'A Rose for Emily'" The jounal of narrative technique.
Your essay must evaluate the evidence presented by the critics as well as other evidence that might be relevant, and you must resolve the debate. You may do so by choosing one argument over the other argument, by constructing a compromise argument that includes the best of both arguments, or by offering a third argument which addresses problems you find in the critics. Your resolution must be justified by the evidence you have presented.
