FindLaw describes gender discrimination as being whenever someone is treated differently at work on account of their gender, this can be anything from hiring decisions to promotions (2014).  "It is unlawful to harass a person (an applicant or employee) because of that person’s sex. Harassment can include “sexual harassment” or unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical harassment of a sexual nature" (EEOC, 2015, para. 1).  The EEOC does go on to say though that harrassment does not need to be sexual in nature, it can also include offensive remarks about that persons sex (2015).  As we can see from these examples the main differences are that discrimination is treating someone differently just because they are a man or a woman in the workplace.  Sexual harassment can be either sexual in nature or offensive remarks about a persons sex.  The key here is that harassment is harassing behavior towards a person.
In gender discrimination here are some examples of some prohibited activities:
·         firing or demoting someone based on factors* other than job performance
·         lowering someone’s pay or paying them less than a co-worker with a comparable job, if the pay difference is based on their race, sex, etc.
·         applying a policy that negatively affects one group of people more than others (i.e. hurts only women or only men; or hurts a minority group or people of a specific religion or national origin)
·         offering different discipline, work terms, conditions, benefits or pay to one group* than to others (PHRC, 2015, para. 6).
If the activity targets a group for exclusion based upon their sex it is essentially a prohibited activity.
The EEOC describes sexual harassment as, "unwelcome sexual advances, requests for sexual favors, and other verbal or physical conduct of a sexual nature constitute sexual harassment when this conduct explicitly or implicitly affects an individual's employment, unreasonably interferes with an individual's work performance, or creates an intimidating, hostile, or offensive work environment" (EEOC, 2015, para. 2).

Financial Case Study - Custom Essay

This case is presented in your textbook (with additions below).  Your assignment follows.

As the senior member of a consulting team (actually working alone), produce a report for your client with any necessary and appropriate data, calculations, and diagrams.  The report is intended to describe the determination of process control and process capability by a consulting team.

Sample data for SPC limit calculation is presented on page 264.  Discuss statistical process control concepts and tools.  Analyze the data and using appropriate tools determine if the process is statistically in control.  Comment on any behavior changes or irregularity incidents.  As an additional requirement discuss process capability, calculate the process capability, assuming specification limits of 50 lbs. +1.5 lbs. and a standard deviation of 0.25 lbs. and make an appropriate statement about whether the process is capable or not (or cannot be stated, giving the reason). Intermediate calculations should be taken to two decimal places and final answers should be rounded to one decimal place.

This is an individual assignment.  Do your own calculations and writing.  Cite sources (I will expect you to refer to several relevant resources) and use quotation marks if directly using the words of a source.  Do not overuse quotes.

See below for additional instructions.

Instructions:

The case study should follow general instructions for case studies as found in the course syllabus (“green sheet”) and as discussed in class.  Be sure to incorporate answers to the two questions in the narrative part of your paper, not as discrete questions and answers (remember this is a consulting report).  Show data, all calculations, and relevant charts and diagrams as part of your paper (either in the analysis or as appendices).

The paper must have the following components in this sequence:
Evaluation form with student name and section number (form found right after these instructions)
Cover page (case name, student name, course number, course section number, academic term or date)
Table of contents (paper sections and page number where each section starts)
Multi-section narrative content
Introduction (or background, situation summary, etc.)
Two or more sections containing analysis, conclusions, recommendations, etc.
Data, calculations, charts, and diagrams (either in the main part of the narrative or as an appendix or appendices)
Recommendations for action
Conclusion (one or two paragraph summary)
Bibliography (all works researched during case solution development; Use AMA or APA style guides but do NOT title that section as “Works Cited.”)

Footnotes, not endnotes or embedded in-text reference notes must be used.

Don’t spend time researching the company “Bayfield Mud Company.”  Many cases use fictitious names and this may be one. Focus on the quality related topics.  Do your research before you write the paper!

Write from the viewpoint of a reasonably experienced consultant, but one who still cites authorities with direct quotations and/or references to principles, facts, opinions, theories, etc.  As such a consultant, write in the first person plural (“we”), NOT in the first person singular (“I”) when referring to your findings, opinions, recommendations, etc.
